Characteristics of a Claims Adjuster

Updated On: February 11, 2009

It can be extremely difficult to deal with Insurances Companies and you may ask yourself why? When you make a claim for the most part they seem to make even the simplest task difficult. Like any other company their goal is to make a profit and run a viable business. While there isn’t anything wrong with that concept, the problem arises when the consumer who up to the point of putting in a claim and has been paying their premium every month now needs to collect on the insurance companies promise of reimbursement as set out in their policy. A Claims Adjuster that works for the insurance company is going to feel more obligated to the company that is paying his salary, even if it is at a subconscious level. After all if that company goes out of business or has to down size his job could very well be on the line. So doesn’t it make sense to have someone in your corner looking out for your best interests?

I’m not trying to say that having insurance is a waste of time or that the insurance company is trying to scam you, or that the Claims Adjuster isn’t a decent person just trying to do their job, but as I said they will try to keep their cost of paying out as much as they can. Also you have to take into consideration all the Insurance scams that do occur costing insurance companies millions of dollars every year, and ultimately the everyday honest consumer is the one that is made to pay even though it may be indirectly.

Most people do not realize that the burden of proof is on the claimant to show the amount of damage and the cost of repair and or replacement. As this is not your area of expertise on how to put together the proof and present your case in a comprehensive manner sufficient to the insurance company you are likely to not get paid what the true cost of repair or replacement is. With a Public Claims Adjuster you can eliminate this problem as his job is to represent you the consumer and he will put the proof together along with the presentation. Remember this is what they do all day and every day, so they know exactly what steps to take and what steps to avoid in the process of your claim to get you the maximum payout you need to recover the damage you have suffered.

There have been situations where it has been necessary to take an insurance company to court to get paid so that the consumer could repair their property. Even in the case of a small amount of money where it was only necessary to go to small claims court and that was all based on the report of the Claims Adjuster. Most people wouldn’t go to court without an attorney, after all the other side has representation, shouldn’t you? So why go up against an Insurance company that has years of experience behind them as opposed to your once, every now and then claim.
